Fanqie Novel Starts Paying for "Completion": Up to 7,975 RMB for Completion Bonus, Up to 100,000 RMB for Comic Adaptation Royalties

On October 23, Fanqie Novel launched the "Start with a Book, Finish with Success" completion and submission incentive program. The most convenient rule is that works signed as complete by 23:59:59 on December 31, 2026, are automatically enrolled, without the need for registration. The reward calculation period runs from the start of the event to February 28, 2027, and there are three awards, with the highest single book prize advertised at 100,000 RMB.

The three awards have different criteria. Let's break them down to understand them clearly and then decide if it's worth adjusting your writing schedule for them.

1. How Each of the Three Awards Works

Completion Award is based on the "cumulative listening and reading revenue within the Fanqie Novel App." There are six tiers: 25 RMB for 200 RMB in revenue, 50 RMB for 500 RMB, 100 RMB for 1,000 RMB, 600 RMB for 5,000 RMB, 1,200 RMB for 10,000 RMB, and 6,000 RMB for 50,000 RMB. You can earn all tiers, but each tier is awarded only once per book. If you hit all six tiers, the total is 7,975 RMB, which will be paid with the monthly royalties.

Deep Cultivation Award includes a fixed bonus and a percentage of earnings. The fixed part is 500 RMB, and the percentage is based on word count tiers:

• For completed works between 150,000 and 300,000 words, with a 7-day average read-through rate of at least 12% for the first 100,000 words, you get 10% of the listening and reading revenue during the event period.
• For 300,000 to 800,000 words, with a 200,000-word read-through rate of at least 9%, you get 15%.
• For over 800,000 words, with a 300,000-word read-through rate of at least 5%, you get 20%.

Additionally, two thresholds must be met: the listening and reading revenue during the event period must be at least 500 RMB, and the number of readers for the chapters with the read-through rate must be at least 1,000. This award will be paid with the February 2027 royalties in March 2027.

Manhua Adaptation Rights Development Award is based on the cumulative manhua adaptation rights income up to February 28, 2027:

• 10% of the income for 1,000 RMB,
• 15% for 10,000 RMB,
• 25% for 50,000 RMB, with a cap of 100,000 RMB for the 25% tier.
  If multiple tiers are met in the same month, the highest tier is applied, and they do not stack.

2. Three Common Misunderstandings

First, the revenue is only counted for the four months of the event. The event guidelines specify that the listening and reading revenue and manhua adaptation rights income for all three awards are calculated from October 23, 2026, to February 28, 2027. Historical revenue from older books does not count towards these awards.

Second, the completion bonus is based on listening and reading revenue, not total royalties. Listening and reading revenue refers to the share from in-app reading and audiobooks, which is usually less than the author's total monthly royalties. To reach the 60,000 yuan tier, an author needs to accumulate 50,000 yuan in listening and reading revenue over four months, a level typically achieved by top-tier books. Most authors will likely fall into the 2,500 yuan, 5,000 yuan, or 10,000 yuan tiers. It's better to think of this as a "completion bonus" rather than a significant income source, to manage expectations.

Third, the completion rate is based on the 7-day average at the end of February 2027, not the entire period. For the three word count conditions in the Deep Cultivation Award, the completion rate is calculated as the 7-day average at the end of the evaluation month (February 2027), and the chapter must have been read by more than 1,000 people during that month. In other words, the award is based on the data from the last few days of February, so the timing of the book's completion and conclusion will directly impact this number.

3. This Money Only Covers One Kind of Book

The activity is aimed at "works signed under the completed book model," which was only introduced on September 7th. The official guidelines state that "once a work is created, the signing model cannot be changed." Combining these two points: books already under serial contracts cannot switch to the completed book model to participate in this event. The only works that can benefit from this are those created after September 7th, signed under the completed book model, and finalized by December 31st. The announcement currently does not provide a way to switch models—if this changes later, this assessment will need to be updated.

The completed book model itself is not an "automatic sign-on after completion." Works are not shown to readers before signing; once the signing process is initiated, the main text is locked, and if it fails the review, it can be reopened for editing. Each work has a total of three signing application opportunities. If the first quality assessment fails, there are only two chances left to revise and reapply. It is a one-time quality assessment, so the manuscript should be thoroughly reviewed before submission.

4. Three Things You Can Do Now

Create a new book under the completed book model. To complete the signing process by December 31st, you need to create a new book under the completed book model now. Work backward from the signing review step, leaving at least one round of revision time.

Estimate your tier based on listening and reading revenue, not total royalties. First, estimate how much listening and reading revenue you can generate over four months, and see which tier you fall into and how close you are to the next tier. If the gap is large, there's no need to change your creation plan. If it's close, calculate whether extending the timeline is worth it.

Schedule the conclusion for late January to early February. The deadline for accounting is February 28, 2027, and the deep engagement award is based on the completion rate at the end of February. If you rush to wrap up in the last week, both the data and time will be against you.

5. Clear Red Lines

The announcement explicitly categorizes "rushed conclusions, forced discontinuations, and deliberately poor endings" as violations aimed at securing activity rewards, resulting in disqualification and the recovery of any awarded prizes. Content that is watered down, padded, or maliciously repetitive will be treated similarly. Creating a large number of works, frequently posting chapters, or publishing extremely long content within a short period will be flagged as abnormal posting, leading to the termination of participation. A final review will be conducted before the awards are distributed, and the works must be in a normal state without being removed from recommendations.

The signal from this event is actually clearer than the prize money itself: the platform is now paying based on "completion" rather than output volume.
